We have trimmed the tree, decked the halls and are continuing the holiday festivities by celebrating with family and friends; but, what will you do with your live tree and excess debris after the holiday?
Did you know Americans throw away 25 percent more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s than any other time of the year? In fact, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the extra waste produced during the holidays amounts to about one million additional tons! In this edition of Safety Saturday, we want to bring some options for safely and effectively disposing of your tree and trash.
Our office is in The Woodlands Township and if you are local to us, the good news is your live trees will have use after the holiday! Trees that are placed curbside will be composted while trees that are taken to a designated recycling drop off area will be chipped and used as ground cover.
If your real tree is flocked, it will not qualify for recycling, but you can safely dispose of your flocked tree by calling to schedule bulk pick-up with Waste Management Customer Service at 800-800-5804. To adequately plan and coordinate, Waste Management requests a two-day notice prior to your regularly scheduled service day. Additionally, artificial trees will be accepted as a bulk pickup on heavy trash day.
If you live in Montgomery County’s Commissioner Precinct 3, you can drop off your live tree at the Residential Recycling Facility on Pruitt Rd.
From product packaging like cardboard boxes to decorations and gift wrap, it’s important for everyone to know the safe way to manage/handle these items before placing them in the bin or taking them to the curb. Here are a couple of reminders:
